It was in the context of frenzied economic development that the architectural wonder that is now the Yangon Excelsior Hotel was built. It originally housed the general headquarters of the Steel Brothers Company, a conglomerate of companies specialised in the economic development of mining, agricultural, mineral and wood resources.
Lying in the lower town in the heart of the colonial heritage, the hotel is a mere 5-minute walk from the spectacular, two thousand-year-old Sule pagoda, with its golden cupola. Another short walk will bring you to the Maha Bandula park or to admire the majestic city hall, the symbol of Burmese syncretic architecture.
